Stress Can Kill Your Skin

Written By: Bridezilla

Okay so we are all worried about how our skin looks on our wedding day. But did you know that keeping you stress level at a minimum can actually help your skin. The University of Tennessee, Memphis, just released a study (on November 1st in the Journal of Clinical Investigation) on the effect of stress on mice skin. Stressed mice are more prone to impetigo. I know this study wasn’t conducted on humans, but I certainly am not going to take any chances.

Remember to wash your skin twice a day. Brides with frequent acne, like me, may be tempted to wash more than twice a day, but this can dry out your skin and actually make you acne worse. Get on a good skin care regiment. It can take up 8 weeks to treat reoccurring acne. Also look into what medicines you are taking, some birth control pills can cause acne, in some women, so ask your doctor if you are having problems getting your skin clear.

I know it is hard, but it is healthier for your skin (as well as your immune system) if you try to reduce your pre-wedding stress. Exercise, spending time with pets, and doing things your love (that doesn’t involve the wedding) are all really great ways to reduce your stress. Remember getting enough sleep and eating properly are keys to reducing your stress. Reinhold Nieburhr’s serenity prayer is a great quote for all brides to keep in mind:“Grant me the courage to change the things I can change, the serenity to accept the things I can’t change, and the wisdom to know the difference.”

Who’d have thought that stress could cause that. I’m going to have to work to get my stress lower, that impetigo looks awful.

I had impetigo on my chin when I was in 5th grade. I couldn’t go to school for two weeks because it’s HIGHLY contagious.
