South Carolina China: 101
South Carolina china consists of the fallowing varieties:
Porcelain: Porcelain is one of the strongest chinas. You can tell porcelain from other china types by its bright white color and translucency. Most porcelain is dishwasher safe, but read the label (normally stuck to the bottom of plates in South Carolina department stores) to see if the pattern is dishwasher safe, before adding it to your South Carolina wedding gift registry.
Bone China: Bone china is the most formal china in South Carolina department stores. Many bone china patterns feature gold or platinum accents. A way to test if china is bone is to hold a plate up to a light and see if you can see the shadow of your hand through the dinner plate. If you can, it’s bone china. Always hands wash your bone china, because bone china can be damaged in the dishwasher.
Earthenware: Earthenware is very popular on South Carolina wedding gift registries. Earthenware much thicker than bone china, or porcelain. Glazed earthenware is dishwasher friendly, but can be prone to chipping.
Stoneware: Stoneware is harder than earthenware, making it great for everyday use and dishwasher safe. Stoneware looks handcrafted and is a great addition to a casual South Carolina dining room. One draw back to stoneware is it's weight. Stoneware can be heavy, compared to other china, making it hard for children and some senior citizens to carry.
Ironstone: Ironstone china is also harder than earthenware. It dates back to the industrial revolution and was very popular around the civil war. If your South Carolina dinning room has the "Classic Charleston" look consider adding Ironstone to your wedding registry.
Freezer-Oven-Table china: Many new chinas can be used for storing, baking, and serving. If your South Carolina kitchen has limited space consider Freezer-Oven-Table china.
