Great in 2008: South Carolina’s Hottest Wedding Trends

Weddings in South Carolina have changed a lot over the last several years. Gone are the strict rules of etiquette and stuffy receptions. Couples are choosing to do things their way – and leave the old "rules” behind. Here are some of the hottest trends in store for 2008 South Carolina weddings:

Group Bachelor/Bachelorette Parties – Gone are the days of the men and women separating to have one last hoorah before the nuptials. Today, brides and grooms are planning activities for all their friends to participate in together. Camping trips, weekend getaways, catching a professional sporting event and fun days at the beach top the list of trendy alternatives. Emphasis on Family – More and more SC couples are viewing their wedding as an opportunity to celebrate the importance of family. Many weddings are doubling as family reunions, especially when vows are exchanged in beautiful SC cities like Charleston or Hilton Head. Family photos are being displayed at reception sites and some couples are asking guests to write down their favorite family recipes to start their collection.

Personalization – Monogrammed and personalized items are all the rage these days, and weddings are no exception. Couples are choosing to add custom monograms to everything from the invitations to the wedding cake. Favors are getting personalized too – many couples are choosing to monogram items like silver key chains for the women and money clips for the men.

Healthy Receptions – With more Americans becoming health conscious, couples have decided to offer alternatives to traditional reception food. Some are choosing low carb options – like lean meat and steamed vegetables, while others are offering vegetarian or vegan items for their guests. Don’t worry – dessert is still on most menus!

New Color Schemes – South Carolina brides like to be on the cutting edge of fashion and many are choosing wedding colors inspired by designer runways. This spring, citrus colors of yellow, orange and green top the list of trendiest color schemes. Browns, like taupe and chocolate, continue to be hits in the bridal market. The deep oceanic hues of last year are still popular, with azure and turquoise still in high demand. This fall, deeper orange and yellow hues are expected to dominate –as they are reminiscent of beautiful fall foliage.

Bye, Bye Wedding Cake – Believe it or not, wedding cakes are making an exit. Many South Carolina couples are choosing a dessert buffet instead – to add variety and appeal to all their guests.

High-Tech Nuptials –The technology age is upon us, and SC couples are taking advantage. Some are choosing to send email invitations to guests, while others are setting up their own wedding website to keep their guests informed of the progress of the wedding plans.
